With passions for entrepreneurship and science, Jay Hartenbach focused on business management and strategy at Duke University for his graduate studies after earning a B.S. in biomedical engineering from Miami University in 2013. In 2016, he was contacted by his former college mate and current co-founder, J.P. Larsen, who spent his early career working with local U.S. hemp farmers combined their shared interests in entrepreneurship and wellness, experience with marketing, biomedicine, CBD regulated farming, production and direct access to US-based industrial hemp farms to create Medterra. Medterra was born out of Jay’s living room in 2017 and immediately leveraged the growing demand for CBD after identifying the massive marketplace need for trusted products without THC at affordable pricing. The bootstrapped startup of two quickly expanded to over 60 employees and currently operates out of its headquarters in Irvine, California as one of today’s leading global CBD brands.
